In the mid-90s, S.I.L.T.I. SUD was among the first companies in Italy to obtain the ISO 9001 quality certificate, precisely at the request of Telecom Italia (formerly SIP). Subsequently, in the early 2000s, the company expanded its product range by introducing fiberglass poles with specific accessories for public lighting use. In the course of almost 50 years of history, S.I.L.T.I. SUD has worked with large and small telecommunications companies in Europe and the rest of the world, revolutionizing the aerial telephony/data network sector. Fiberglass poles are progressively replacing wood and metal poles thanks to their countless advantages. 

S.I.L.T.I. SUD S.p.A. was founded in 1977 as a company specializing in the processing of thermosetting and thermoplastic materials, part of the Belforte group: a set of companies specialized in the production of components and accessories for telephone networks for SIP (later Telecom Italia).  
It was one of the first companies in Southern Italy to have a 2000-ton press, allowing for the production of large-sized components in a single moulding. Thanks to this and other presses for thermoplastic and thermosetting material, the company produced many types of street distribution cabinets for the partitioning of telephone lines.  
The Know-How developed in the production of these components led the company to collaborate with SIP engineers who needed to solve the problem of deteriorating wooden poles. European regulations on wood treatments were becoming increasingly restrictive, progressively reducing the useful life of this type of support while increasing network inspection and maintenance costs. The solution developed was a monolithic conical section pole made entirely of fiberglass (FRC POLES), a composite material of polyester resin and a specific glass fiber fabric. This support became the ideal solution for creating aerial copper telephone lines (and now optic fiber lines), especially in difficult-to-reach areas or environments with high criticality (areas with high exposure to strong winds, saline or polluted environments, areas subject to periodic flooding) due to its high resistance to environmental conditions and ease of installation. 

ORANGE France, the main telephone operator across the Alps, sent its technical managers to SILTI Sud to study and test the characteristics of fiberglass poles, with the aim of defining the technical specifications for the poles to be used in the aerial wired telecommunications network in France (copper and fiber optic). This led to the creation of the “R0” pole with its characteristic "faux wood" coloring, which in the following years spread to other countries and became increasingly used, often replacing old wooden poles until they were completely supplanted in France. 

In Italy, TELECOM ITALIA (TIM) fiberglass poles are now widespread throughout the territory, making them of interest for new possible applications. During these years, they began to be used for lighting railway platforms, small private squares, for sections of medium and low voltage electrical grids, as supports for surveillance video cameras, and even as submerged foundations for the construction of sea mooring piers. 

In 2025, S.I.L.T.I. SUD joined a national funding call for investments aimed at Transition 4.0. Thanks also to funds from the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (MIMIT), the company invested in new machinery to increase its annual production capacity of fiberglass poles (reaching 150 thousand poles per year) and also connect previous generation machinery to the Web network. 

In light of the growing importance of environmental sustainability in recent years, the company intensified its commitment in this area, obtaining the ISO 14001 certification and installing a 250 kW photovoltaic system. Thanks to the excellent solar exposure at our latitudes, this investment has made the company independent from the national electrical grid for 50% of its energy needs. 

In 2021, S.I.L.T.I. Sud opened a new business branch: WBS Wallbox Station. Following the electric mobility trend, it became a distributor and installer of Wallbow.com wallboxes. For info: www.wbstation.com/.
